man enjoying toe tappers

Thistle Court Care Home in Cwmbran held a session with Ranntastic Toe Tappers this week for its residents (who are fondly called ‘family members’). The activities included using music and movement, as well as engaging by throwing balls, batting balloons and using fabric to wave.

Activities that combine movement and mental stimulation (such as listening to music) are helpful for people who are living with a Dementia and can improve cognition. Dance activities, including dancing while sat down which is common for elderly classes, have been proven to improve moods and reduce anxious or depressive symptoms in people who are cognitively impaired.

Lisa Rann, the founder of Ranntastic Toe Tappers commented “Ranntastic Toe Tappers was developed 18 months ago after seeing all the activities that care/residential homes provide for their residents and deciding to put my own spin on it. Our music and movement sessions are not just entertainment, they are essential for physical, mental, and emotional well-being.  Through the power of rhythm and melody, we can unlock memories, spark joy, and improve the quality of life for those in care. Our favourite saying at Ranntastic is ‘Music is always the answer’”
