Hatherleigh Nursing Home, located in Okehampton, Devon, recently stepped back in time to the era of the flower power and all things peace and love, by hosting their own 60’s flashback dress up day. The team and residents, who the home fondly refer to as family members, were encouraged to dress up in their grooviest, most colourful attire in honour of the day.
The nursing home, dedicated to providing not just care but also enhancing quality of life, organised a 60’s-themed performance featuring their regular singer, Zara King, who also immersed herself in the classic 60’s style dress up. Family members thoroughly enjoyed the performance and were seen singing and clapping along to the tunes, the team shared “It heartwarming it was to see the music from a decade that shaped many of our family members’ youth bring out such positive feelings and reactions.” The Kitchen Team prepared a hearty Devonshire chicken casserole, a popular dish in the 60’s and 70’s, followed by a classic peach cobbler for dessert.
The success of the 60’s flashback highlighted the importance of communal gatherings in promoting a sense of belonging and shared experiences. The Devon nursing home remain dedicated to crafting more events that enrich the lives of their family members and bring their community closer together.
