The residents at Gibraltar Nursing Home (who are fondly called ‘family members’) were visited by Cadbury’s to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the chocolate brand. The Monmouth nursing home was one of seven care homes that were part of the celebration, with a focus on the heritage of the brand, and the nostalgia that people experience when thinking of Cadbury’s, especially around Christmas time. The brand, which was founded in 1824, started off selling drinking chocolate and then branched out into selling the iconic chocolate bars they are known for today.
They brought a quiz for the family members to take part in, and also some themed word searches for them to enjoy. Activities such as puzzles and word searches can help people with living with a Dementia by stimulating both sides of the brain simultaneously and is known to produce dopamine aka the ‘feel-good’ chemical for a therapeutic effect. Prizes in the iconic Cadbury purple were given, including pens, blankets, and of course, lots of chocolate!
Operations Manager, Tracy Grant, who organised the visit said “The engagement from our family members was wonderful to see. They loved the retro-wrapped Cadbury’s chocolate, which sparked memories and conversations, and enjoyed taking part in the quiz”.
