The build-up to this year’s care home open day at Thistle Court turned into a full week of celebration. Bringing together family members, relatives and team members through food, music and World Cup fun.
The home kicked off its celebrations on 11th June with the opening of the World Cup, transforming the home with decorations, football-themed cakes and a home-wide sweepstake. Every family member was given a country to support, alongside each department and household, creating friendly competition and plenty of excitement as the tournament got underway.
From Bluebell supporting Norway to Snowdrop backing Panama, and departments including Housekeeping, Maintenance and the office each flying their own colours, the home has embraced the tournament spirit from the start.
Alongside the football celebrations, the home also marked National Cheese Day with a cheese tasting, giving family members the chance to sample different varieties and enjoy an afternoon centred around food, conversation and shared memories. This was followed by National Sausage Roll Day, where team members made sure everyone could join in by taking sausage rolls around the home to family members to enjoy.
The celebrations continued throughout the week with a lively visit from the Rantastic Toe Tappers, bringing music, dancing and laughter into the home, all building towards open day on the 19th June, where the football theme continues with goal posts, footballs and live music from a visiting keyboard player.
Sarah Butfield, Home Manager said “It’s been lovely to see the excitement building around the home ahead of our open day. From the World Cup sweepstake to our cheese tasting and sausage roll day, it’s given everyone plenty to talk about and enjoy together.”
With the World Cup now underway and every corner of the home behind a team, the celebrations are set to continue over the coming weeks, creating more opportunities for connection, conversation and shared moments together.
