There’s something about the smell of a BBQ in the air, the sound of laughter drifting across a garden, and the comfort of seeing neighbours and friends that makes a day feel complete. At Frome Nursing Home’s Easter Fair, it wasn’t just about stalls and activities, it was about shared moments that mirror life at home.
Held in Somerset, the event welcomed residents, fondly referred to as family members, local traders, and the wider Frome community. With everyone gathered on familiar ground, it offered a calm, enjoyable afternoon to celebrate Easter Sunday!
BBQ Smells filled the air, Punch and Judy provided entertainment, and Twinnnings Petting Farm brought along some spring animals.
The fair was open to all, with space for people to get involved in their own way. Twinnies Petting Farm brought their newly born spring lambs, offering a connection to nature and a reminder of familiar countryside routines for many family members who have had a past with farming.
For younger guests, face painting, children’s rides, and an Easter Egg Hunt kept everyone entertained. Paul Wheeler’s Punch and Judy show returned for another year, drawing a steady crowd throughout the day.
Sherin, the Home Manager, made her way onto the swing ride, despite not being a fan of heights, met with cheers from those watching. A small moment, but one that said a lot about the home’s leadership: inclusive, fun and encouraging.
Food was served fresh from the BBQ and pizza oven, with the smell of onions and bacon drawing people together. Tables were laid with handmade Easter crafts, and conversation flowed easily between guests.
Family members sat with team members and visitors, continuing the importance of family and mealtime experience, which is an important part of the home’s ethos.
For those living with a Dementia, the activities encouraged everyone to have the choice to engage in a way that felt comfortable, whether resting in a quiet corner or getting involved with crafts.
The event ran smoothly thanks to a well-led team working quietly behind the scenes. It was clear the day had been shaped around the people living at the home, with thoughtful planning and space for individual choice.
It’s not just about putting on an event, it’s about responding to what matters. Being outside, eating together, connecting with animals, or simply watching things unfold.
Frome Nursing Home values the importance of maintaining the routines and experiences that feel familiar, whether that’s spending time with animals within a farming community like Frome, enjoying home baking, or going for local outings. These are not just pastimes, but purposeful choices that support a caring and well-led environment. Each activity is designed to be meaningful and responsive to individual preferences, helping ensure everyone feels part of everyday life in a way that is both natural and respectful.
