Hatherleigh Nursing Home, a leading provider of compassionate elderly care in Okehampton, Devon, recently hosted a vibrant and memorable Burns Night celebration for its residents, fondly referred to as family members, and its dedicated team. The event, held on the 25th of January, brought the rich traditions and spirit of Scotland to Hatherleigh, creating a day of cultural appreciation.

The home was filled with the sounds, smells, and tastes of Scotland as everyone immersed themselves in the traditions of Burns Night. The menu featured iconic Scottish dishes, starting with the classic Haggis, Neeps and Tatties, alongside a delicious vegetarian option of Cheesy Swede and Parsnip Bake, ensuring that every palate was catered for. The culinary journey continued with a delicious Cranachan for dessert—a traditional pudding made with cream, oats, raspberries, and a touch of whisky.

The Burns Night festivities were not just about the food—it was a day to forge connections, and honour Scotland’s national poet, Robert Burns. For family members with Scottish heritage, it was a poignant opportunity to celebrate their roots, while others enjoyed learning about and embracing the vibrant Scottish culture.

Hatherleigh Nursing Home’s Burns Night celebration was a resounding success, bringing warmth, laughter, and a sense of community to everyone involved—a true testament to the home’s commitment to creating meaningful moments for its residents and team members.
